Why We Loved DrupalCon

DrupalCon DC has come to an end and after four days of intense sessions, BoF's and code sprints we are back at the office and reflecting on everything that happened.

Our flight home was the first chance that Dom and I had to stop and discuss our joint experiences. We bumped into Morten.dk at the airport who was just off to write up a ton of DrupalCon notes before his flight home. This got me in the mood for ignoring all the good advice I'd received about easing my jet lag by sleeping on the way home and so I have started to jot down some thoughts. Four days of blog inducing conversations and learning has certainly given me plenty of things to think about.

First off Dom and I want to thank all the generous Drupalers that have given us their time to help us get involved, learn more and to make us feel even more a part of the community. We look forward to chatting with you in IRC and on Twitter.

For the time being here are some stand-out moments from DrupalCon. I want to cover some of my thoughts on these over the coming days and hope that time allows.

Keynote: The State of Drupal – Dries Buytaert

Seeing 1400 Drupalers all in one room! It's a lot of people and it is way more people than Dries had at his 2005 DrupalCon, as his photos of that event showed. Drupal is really growing and there was plenty of discussion about how that will affect the development of Drupal.

Why I Hate Drupal – James Walker

For me this was the best session of the entire event. James Walker presented a very interesting and thought provoking presentation on some of the things that need to change in Drupal and it's community to make Drupal better.

Usability of Drupal

Usability in Drupal was a subject that ran throughout the conference and it was great to be able to sit with Catch and Beeradb and hear about the findings of all the usability tests that have been going on. A lot of work that has highlighted some key usability issues to the community.

Drupal.org Redesign Code Sprint

A group of us sat in a room on Saturday to get started on helping with continuing the brilliant work that the Paris code sprint has already started. Mark Boulton was on hand to answer questions and we look forward to helping in the coming weeks on this.

Design for Drupal (D4D)

Morten has been working hard to get the community of designers for Drupal together and a new group was setup at DC. You can find it here: http://groups.drupal.org/d4d.

Migrating to Drupal

Moshe Weitzman and Mike Ryan provided an amazing presentation on their hard work to improve the process of migrating existing content from other CMS into Drupal.
